Grizzly 2026 Training

We will list all of the planned Grizzly Training on these pages over the coming few months, although these are being planned with the Grizzly in mind, they are for anyone that wants to train on trails throughout the winter months.

The plan will be to organise hilly, muddy and traily runs. Unless we have extreme weather that is dangerous, they will continue in rain, sleet, or snow and irrespective of the temperature at the time! SO, please, please, do come prepared - wrap up warm, bring fuel and water AND expect to get muddy and wet!!

The aim of the sessions is to get hilly miles in the bank and to test endurance, they are not about speed and racing up and down the hills, so please don't be put off joining because you think youw will be too slow! Trust me, the faster runners will enjoy a rest at the top of the hill...

We will aim to mix up the starting locations and if we can get the run leaders lined up we will get a mix of Saturdays and Sundays.

Any questions, just let me know! Cheers, Simon

Club Championship event Black Park Parkrun 13th Dec 25

Course Description

The course is one lap on firm, flat and wide tracks of compacted earth and gravel. Fast times can be expected. The start is approximately 100m along the track at the east end of the car park. All course turns are marked with direction arrows - if there is no sign you should always stay on the path you are on.

The route goes north for 630m before turning right (signed). Follow this wide track (which swings gradually to the right) ignoring all side turnings for 1560m until the main A412 road is reached at the bottom south east corner of the park. Turn right (signed) and go forward with the main road just outside the park on your left hand side for 550m until reaching a crossing of tracks. Turn right again (signed) and continue on this track for 350m to a fork of tracks. Take the right fork (signed) and continue for another 750m ignoring all side turnings until reaching the next sign. Turn left and continue for 350m to a "T" junction at the heathland area. Here turn left again (signed) and run 400m to the next crossroads. Turn left (signed), then in 250m turn right (signed) for a straight 160m to the finish line.

Parking: Black Park has a 2 hour car parking charge of £3.10 if the ticket is purchased before 9am (£4.20 after 9am). If you are staying beyond 2 hours please purchase an appropriate ticket on arrival. The ticket machines will take cash or contactless payment cards, and require entry of your vehicle registration. Alternatively, payment can be made via the RingGo app using code 21920.
Please note that there are regular enforcement patrols.

Club event Wokingham Half 22nd Feb

The David Cliff Wokingham Half Marathon is run on closed roads under UK Athletics rules. The route is equally suitable for those looking to complete their first half marathon as it is to established club runners seeking a new PB. Wokingham Half also hosts a very competitive affiliated club team competition with four to score in both women’s and men’s categories

The David Cliff Wokingham Half Marathon supports many local good causes and community groups and in turn is supported by them with their volunteers helping to marshal the route, manage the water stations and look after the race village.

Summer 5k Series: Marlow Striders hosting and Food list on Tuesday, 8th July 2025

Marlow Striders hosting the Summer 5km series on Tuesday, 8th July 2025 -

Please select relevant options below to confirm -

  1. your attendance as a volunteer and
  2. what food contributions you're able to bring (2 or more would be ideal)

A few points to note about the food -

  • We have a reputation to uphold of providing the best post-run buffet.
  • Please label any gluten free, vegetarian, vegan foods - there will be separate tables for these.
  • Please bring sandwiches & cakes into pre cut-up "portion sizes" - to make it easy to distribute the food (we have had whole cakes arriving in the past).
  • *1 loaf = either 1 loaf of bread (sliced into quarters) or 6 x bagels (sliced into halves) or 12 x baps (sliced into halves)
  • Please do not bring sandwiches with much salad in or items with chocolate coating, as they are messy if the weather is hot.
  • Multi-pack crisps are better than large packets.
  • Any tins, boxes, plates, and anything people want back - please put a label on so we can return it to you afterwards.

Race location: Hurley Meadow, accessed from Hurley Village, SL6 5NB (there will be signs on arrival)

Race Date & time: Tuesday, 8th July - run start time 7.30pm

Course: A map of the course is available here.

Tasks Requiring Assistance:

  1. Course Set Up: this will be done by a few individuals during the afternoon. However if anyone would like to come down and assist, feel free to turn up at the Meadow from about 4.00pm onwards.
  2. Food contributions: See above
  3. Marshalling: We need marshals stationed at strategic points along the course. Antony Bourne will be in charge of marshalling. Please arrive between 18:00 and 18:30 to allow time to be allocated your marshalling point and to get into position. Please make sure your stay at your post wearing your high-viz tabard (which will be provided) until the tail runner has passed (which for certain positions will be for the second time, as it's a figure of eight course)
  4. Car Parking: Several volunteers are needed to direct runners to the parking area from Hurley High Street. Your availability would be required from 17:45 as the first runners tend to arrive from 18:00.
  5. Other Tasks: Additional tasks include course set up, monitoring the water table, overseeing the food stations, timekeeping, and assisting at the finish funnel.
  6. Post-Run clean Up: After the race, it's important that we leave the Meadow as we found it. Everyone is requested to assist with the clean-up process, including taking down gazebos, collecting signs, and removing any waste. Please consider taking a black waste bag with you for disposal, as there are no bins on the Meadow.

Please remember that we don't run our own 5k race ourselves, but rather rely on the support of all club members to volunteer and make it a success.

Please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or need further clarification. We look forward to seeing you all on Tuesday afternoon/evening for a successful and enjoyable race!

Stride On!
