For those new to the club, and as a reminder for others, Marlow Striders take part in a Summer 5K series, a series of 5km runs organised by local running clubs.
These runs are informal, closed events, only available to club members and their bona fide guests. These events are invariably popular and the runs are always followed by refreshments at the venue.
As well as testing yourself against your club mates over the series, it’s also a good way to meet runners from other local clubs in our area. There is great camaraderie and everyone is welcome and encouraged to participate. These are for runners of all abilities, whatever their times, so you can either just plod round or burn the rubber on your trainers depending on your inclination!
There are 6 races in the series, each hosted by a different running club, and there are 9 running clubs that take part.
Full details about our own event will be issued in due course. Just be aware that we do not participate in our own run, as we need all hands to the pump to make sure that the run goes off without any problems. In meantime, please “save this date” in your diaries – 9th July!
The cost for members taking part in the Summer Series is £10 for the entire series, irrespective of the number of races you run (for ease of administration). That's the equivalent of £2/race if you do all of them, excellent value for what you get, even if you only do a couple.
Guests are welcome, but only friends or family of a current member. A guest may attend up to 2 races of the series.
The cost for guests is £4 per race, payable to the club 5k rep on the night.
Numbers will be available from the club 5k rep (Patrick Grindley) on any club evening, or before 7pm on the night of the races themselves. Each club member will be issued only one race number which must be retained for all races in the series.
If by any chance you still have your number from last year (it has been known) please throw it away – it will only confuse the results processing.
Please make sure you fill in your personal details in the space provided on the reverse of the number. This will help in the event of any accident or similar.
Members are asked to car share wherever possible, not only because of emissions, but also because parking can be a potential problem at certain venues.
Single use cups/bottles will not be provided by the host club
Each hosting club will provide refreshments and water, which will be available after each race.
Single use cups and plates will not be provided by the host club - members are asked to bring their own cups/water bottles and plates.
Refreshments are consumed at runners own risk.
